Years ago, I walked up to a total stranger and his two daughters and shared my perspective of how I saw them that day. Now fast forward four years later when he approached me at a graduation party. He told me what it meant to him for a stranger to walk up to him and speak Truth over his life. It moved me to tears and as a result it has led to the creation of the Be BOLD Speak TRUTH™ - movement.

"Some of you might remember a while back I posted a blog that a complete stranger wrote about my daughters and I while out enjoying ourselves at "Tyme for Tea" in Niles. It was Sunday July 21, 2013 when this individual walked up and told me that me being there with my daughters inspired her to write. She gave me her card and told me to check the blog later that night. I did so and my wife and I thought it was the sweetest thing anyone has ever written and it is now framed up hanging in our room. Who would have thought that 4 years later we would cross paths again at a graduation party a couple weeks ago. I noticed her when she walked in and nudged my wife whispering to her "hey that's the lady that wrote the blog about me and the girls". I walked up and asked her if she remembered me and she was slowly trying to figure me out. When I mentioned that she wrote a blog about my girls and I she immediately remembered . Where am I going with this? Well that day she stepped out of her comfort zone. She was bold! That boldness forever changed what I thought being bold was. She was inspired to create a FB page that allows others to share moments of inspiration and challenge people to Be Bold & Speak Truth." #letsbuild

Today, I wanted to talk to you Daddy’s out there. Often times, it seems as if my words of advice, encouragement and my lessons learned are aimed at my heart-sisters. So today I wanted to honor you gentlemen, this one’s for you, my heart-brothers!
After church, I spent the afternoon in downtown Niles visiting antique store to antique store and picking up treasures from the past. For those of you that are not familiar with the Niles area, here’s a little history lesson for you. In 1912, Niles was home to one of the first motion picture companies on the West Coast, The Essanay Studios. Charlie Chaplin and Bronco Billy Anderson filmed some of their now famous silent movies in downtown Niles. I stopped in for a scone, English tea and some “me time.” I wanted to work on my book and the thought of watching mothers and grandmothers with their young offspring enjoy their Sunday afternoon while sipping tea and eating scones, well…..it just felt like the perfect place for me to be inspired. I listened to little girls tattle on each other and grandmothers share their wise words on love and life while proudly wearing their red and purple hats. The Victorian tea service for $24.00 included a glass of peach Champagne, a warm lemon scone, cream fraiche, lemon curd and raspberry jelly. Assorted tea sandwiches, fresh pastries and a hot cup of English black tea with a hint of berries, it was the perfect place.
As I was sipping on my tea at high noon and writing about a totally different subject than what you are currently reading at the moment, in walked the three of them. I could tell from the stares I wasn’t the only one who noticed them.
They caught my eye, the two young girls,
sitting at the table next to me.
Their faces told the story of feeling so grown,
while sipping on afternoon tea.
Croissants and sandwiches with jellies and jams,
lined their china plate.
Their giggles and smiles brightened the room,
with each tiny bite they ate.
The stares were present from around the room,
you could hear the gossip and talk.
A whisper here and a whisper there,
of what the girls had brought.
He could feel it too as he sat there,
he acted like it wasn’t a bother.
He carried himself like the proud one,
after all he was their Father.
“How cute. Are these your daughters?”
a lady walked up to say.
But the answer the father gave,
inspired my writing today.
“I’m teaching them how to be a lady,” he said.
His words sunk deep in my heart.
It was clear what I needed to write about,
I knew exactly where to start.
He was not concerned how he looked,
to ladies in this tea room today.
What mattered most were his daughters,
being their daddy was genuinely portrayed.
A tea party back at home,
no one would ever have known.
He chose to have it in public,
the true love of a father was shown.
I hope these girls remember,
how their father went out of his way.
To make sure his girls knew they were special,
because we all saw it today!
So often we think it’s our job as mothers to teach our daughters to be ladies. But wouldn’t it be great for fathers to take the role every now and then, if just for one afternoon while having a tea party with their daughters…….to “LIVE IN THE MOMENT.”
LIVING IN THE MOMENT to me is when you forget about everything else around you and you make the person you are with feel like they are the most important thing in the world. As I gathered my things and got up to leave, I grabbed the perfect red rose from my plate. I walked over to their table and offered it to one of the girls so they both would have one to take home. I introduced myself and told him I was a writer and how much his being here today with his beautiful girls touched my heart and inspired me to write. I asked for his permission to post this story, the way “I saw it” today. I handed him my business card and wrote my blog address on the back. I hope he eventually reads this blog and saves an extra copy for his girls to read when they’re older. I want them to know how their father “LIVED IN THE MOMENT” today, and in doing so inspired a total stranger…….ME!

Bridges Community Church
We exist to glorify God by helping people to come to know and worship Jesus, build caring relationships, serve others, grow spiritually, and influence others to do the same.
At Bridges we gather and worship in five different language venues. While our English venues are our largest, our non-English speaking venues are a core part of who we are and how we are reaching Fremont with the name Christ. Our desire is to keep expanding our reach to connect even more people in their heart language to the living God. This priority has made our English services very multi-cultural and multi-ethnic. That’s how we see God’s Kingdom and we hope and pray that our diversity will grow.

Celebrate Recovery
Celebrate Recovery is a biblical and balanced program that helps us overcome our hurts, hang-ups, and habits. It is based on the actual words of Jesus rather than psychological theory. 25 years ago, Saddleback Church launched Celebrate Recovery with 43 people. It was designed as a program to help those struggling with hurts, habits and hang-ups by showing them the loving power of Jesus Christ through a recovery process. Celebrate Recovery has helped more than 17,000 people at Saddleback, attracting over 70% of its members from outside the church. Eighty-five percent of the people who go through the program stay with the church and nearly half serve as church volunteers. Celebrate Recovery is now in over 29,000 churches worldwide! To find a Celebrate Recovery near you, please go to their website www.celebraterecovery.com.
"Celebrate Recovery is the best thing I've ever done for my family. I never thought I was one of "those people." I didn't have any "big" problems. But, I soon learned the first step of recovery is DENIAL! I had to remove my 'mask of perfection' in order to receive true healing. It's where I found freedom from my hurts, habits and hang ups. My husband and I are now leaders in our church's Celebrate Recovery Ministry. We are humbled at the opportunity we have to mentor men and women of all ages and help guide them to finding freedom, healing and restoration."

WHY I SERVE? - A Volunteer's Perspective
Last week a young lady came into the office. She was obviously sad and distressed. She came in and sat down. I asked her how she was doing and what I could do to help her. She said she didn’t know. I asked her how she found out about us and she said someone told her just to come in and we would help her. I sat down with her and tried to get her to talk about what was going on in her life. I shared some of the things we could help her with, gave her some food and a cup of coffee. As we sat together talking, I could see her taking a breath and feeling like she came to the right place. She ended up leaving with a bag of food and some vouchers for clothes & amenities, all of which were provided by our wonderful churches with a smile. As she got up, she hugged me and I could see tears welling up in her eyes. This is the story that so often replays here as we help our clients. We never know where they have been or what has happened, but it feels so good to be able to help and make someone’s day and life better.
This is why I serve.

AVON Walk for Breast Cancer
The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade focuses on care and seeks to help across the continuum of breast cancer – not only helping those who are at risk or diagnosed with the disease today, but also research into finding better treatments for tomorrow.
I've participated in 9 Breast Cancer Walks and each year, I walk away more inspired than ever before. I walk with thousands of other 39ers, as we band together in solidarity with ONE goal: to take breast cancer down! I pray one day, I live to see a world without breast cancer for our mothers, daughters, nieces, and ourselves. AVON 39 is a force of change that can’t be stopped!
